I would like to create a policy on grounding the fleet due to inclement weather.
We operate CMV's in several states exposed to tropical storms in South Florida as well as into the Great Lakes exposed to ice/snow.
Any ideas on a resource or template to work from would be appreciated!

Here are some guidelines for ceasing operations of Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMVs) hauling freight interstate due to inclement weather:
- Weather Monitoring: Continuously monitor weather conditions through reliable sources like the National Weather Service (NWS) and other meteorological services.
- Communication: Maintain clear and constant communication with drivers, dispatchers, and relevant stakeholders about weather updates and operational decisions.
- Risk Assessment: Evaluate the severity of the weather conditions and their potential impact on road safety. Consider factors such as visibility, road conditions, wind speeds, and precipitation.
- Decision Criteria: Establish specific criteria for ceasing operations, such as certain thresholds for wind speeds, snowfall, or ice accumulation. Make decisions based on these criteria to ensure safety.
- Safety Protocols: Implement protocols for safely securing vehicles and cargo. Ensure that all safety equipment is operational and that drivers are aware of emergency procedures.
- Emergency Preparedness: Have contingency plans in place for emergencies, including designated safe locations for drivers to stop and wait out the weather.
- Documentation: Keep detailed records of all decisions, communications, and actions taken during the cessation of operations for accountability and future reference.
- Regulatory Compliance: Follow guidelines and orders from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regarding out-of-service criteria and imminent hazard declarations.
For more detailed information you can refer to the FMCSA's guidelines on imminent hazard operations.
These documents provide comprehensive procedures and safety measures tailored to CMV's operation in
interstate commerce.
